We aim to provide
a varied and interesting programme by performing works spanning many periods
and styles, including lesser known and new music in addition to repertoire
works and combining with professional soloists. Every third year the choir enjoys an exchange with Evangelische Singgemeinde in Weinheim, Germany. These shared concerts and social events have added a new dimension to the life of the choir, with 2007 being the seventh such exchange. |

Whilst the choir’s ‘home’ for concerts is the fine church of St. Peter ad Vincula, Coggeshall, a further step to maintain the vitality of Witham Choral Society is to perform at other venues. In the summer 2004 we gave a lively concert 'Last Night of the Proms' at Cressing Temple Barns and the year 2006 included a memorable joint performance of Elgar's Dream of Gerontius at the renowned Snape Maltings Concert Hall.
A highlight of the 2004-2005 season was a performance of Elgar's Caractacus. Caractacus presented a considerable challenge for the choir and unique opportunity for both singers and audience to experience this rarely performed work. WCS was fortunate in receiving sponsorship from The Elgar Society for this concert. Members of the Society who attended the concert were warm in expressing their appreciation saying they thought the 'performance tremendous' and that the concert 'did Elgar proud'.
In 2007 we performed both the Verdi and Brahms Requiems. We gave two performances of the Verdi combining once again with The Ipswich Bach Choir. Chelmsford Cathedral was the venue for the Brahms Requiem the concert also including a performance of Mendelsohn's Piano Concerto No 1.
